About Pastor Richard L. Block

Background:  On July 11, 1999, I had the privilege to be installed as Senior Pastor at Mt. Calvary!  Since that time much has changed for me and for Mt. Calvary. 

• A vision process in the spring of 2000 led us to decide in 2001 that we would call three additional people to serve in ministry!  Currently one of these positions are filled:  Becky Luett is Minister of Music and Worship.  We have also called Deanna Morgan as Minister of Discipleship.
  
• Music has and continues to be a strength of the congregation. We have diversified our worship styles with the addition of a praise service with a band and singers who practice and lead a worship service each week. 
  
• A transformation of our worship space took place in 2002.  People are able to look at each other as a family would gather at the dinner table!  The choir and praise band fill the music loft.  The sound system is a strong addition to worship.
• The Alpha course, which is a study in discipleship and relationships, has deepened the faith of many members and visitors. 
  
• Leadership is being strengthened as we are as members and staff being equipped to serve in ministry

As the Senior Pastor my primary responsibilities include assisting in planning and leading worship, planning the preaching outline and preaching frequently, participating in the leadership of several ministry teams or committees  (Executive Board, Council, personnel and staff, stewardship, youth and summer youth interns, health and wellness team, constitution review team and current vision process), teaching confirmation, visitation of members at home and hospitalized, along with wedding and baptism preparations. 

Here are a couple of notes about myself and my family:

• Sandy and I married during our Senior year at college at Augustana in Sioux Falls, S.D.  We have three daughters:  Lauryn, Carmyn and Kathryn!

• I have served the following churches:

  1978-1985       Our Savior's Lutheran in Eau Claire, Wisconsin as Director of Youth-Education.

  1985-1989       Seminary studies at Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa.

  1989-1999       Pastor at Bethel near Gillett, Wisconsin and Our Redeemer's near Suring, Wisconsin.

  1999-Present  Senior Pastor at Mt. Calvary in Rothschild, Wisconsin.
