2018 Visit to South Africa Companion Churches
Missionary for a Day
In July 2018 we are off to South Africa! Preparations are underway. Excitement is building (and a little nervousness) for what we know will be an experience of a lifetime.
The document below has more information on the trip.
We’re not new to our relationship with our South African friends. We have a companion relationship with the Dinokana parish in South Africa, part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Africa (ELCSA). Together we are God’s people walking in God’s mission. Through this relationship we see God’s Spirit stirring congregations and individuals deeply.
In 2016 and 2012 we hosted visitors from South Africa in our homes. Relationships were built as we acknowledged and rejoiced that we are all God’s children. We look forward to strengthening these relationships even further.
The people of Mt. Calvary gladly support the mission work of Rev. Alex LaChapelle. Over our rich history of helping global missions, since 1972 we have supported 11 missionaries in six countries. Financial contributions to Missionary for a Day are designated for this ministry.
Alex serves as a Country Coordinator for the Young Adults Global Mission (YAGM) program in South Africa. He mentors, guides and facilitates young adults through a year of international faith-based service. He creates relationships within the Evangelical Lutheran Church of South Africa (ELCSA) and works alongside and learns from his ELCSA brothers and sisters.
Alex is originally from Wisconsin and a devoted Green Bay Packers fan. His faith is deeply rooted in camp ministry. He believes that the first lesson of love is to listen. His first trip to South Africa was to attend the 2010 World Cup.
His hobbies include playing guitar, watching tennis, football and hockey. His birthday is July 6th.
